One bit of news that kind of got lost in the shuffle in town between Pittsburgh Steelers’ running backs getting arrested and Pitt naming a starting quarterback was the fact that Paul Chryst added a very nice piece to the Class of 2015.
Running back Darrin Hall, out of Youngstown, OH., became Pitt’s first four-star recruit of the 2015 recruiting class, when he surprisingly choose the Panthers over the likes of Michigan State and Kentucky.
Hall announced his decision on Thursday in typical fashion, with a Pitt hat, Michigan State hat and Kentucky hat in front of him. When he choose to don the Panthers cap, it was a very nice addition to the Pitt program for the upcoming years.
With a running back like Sekai Lindsay already in the fold for next season, Pitt has the chance to be loaded in the backfield for the foreseeable future.
Hall is listed between 5’11” and 6’1”, depending on where you look and in between 195 and 215 pounds, but he is listed as a consensus four-star recruit by every major scouting service.
ESPN has Hall as the ninth best recruit in the state of Ohio, and the 32nd best back in the country. Rivals has him as the 168th best player in the nation and is rated as the seventh best player in Ohio. The 24/7 composite rankings put him as 11th in Ohio, and 22nd at running back. Scout has Hall at 228 overall, and the 29th overall running back.
Hall is the type of back that Chryst will love and what he had while at Wisconsin, a guy who runs hard north and south and punishes opposing tacklers.
In addition to also receiving offers from Kentucky and Michigan State, Hall had offers from West Virginia, Northwestern, Nebraska, Illinois, and Vanderbilt as well.
He is the Panthers 13th recruit for the 2015 recruiting class and joins DaVon Hamilton and Kraig Howe as the third player from Ohio to commit.
Hall joins Lindsay as the second running back in this recruiting class, which is interesting as Pitt is only slated to bring in 15-16 kids in the class total.
Even if it causes a chain reaction and Lindsay looks elsewhere, Hall is a nice grab for Chryst and the Panthers.
