Duquesne recorded its third straight win, in the last of a string of holiday road games, 88-69 over Texas Pan-American. The win also marked the third straight road victory for the Dukes (6-5), who also improved their road record to 3-1.
Jim Ferry’s team shot 50 percent for the third straight game. The shooting effort was led, once again, by senior transfer Ovie Soko, who finished with a team high 21 points. Micah Mason scored 14 points, shooting 4 of 5 from beyond the arc, and Jeremiah Jones had 11.
Mason has shot 8 of 11 from 3-point range since returning two games ago from a hand injury he suffered November 20th against Albany.
Duquesne played much of the second half with Soko and forward Dominique McKoy on the bench in foul trouble, but a team effort kept them ahead. The Dukes had four different players in double figures.
The game was tied 15-15 midway through the first half, but Duquesne went on an ensuing 24-6 run, thanks to two key 3-pointers from Mason. Their lead snowballed to a 49-34 halftime advantage.
Texas Pan-American never got close enough to take a lead in the second half. The closest they came was a Javorn Farrell 3-pointer that brought the score to 74-65 with 5:36 to play.
Duquesne hosts Appalachian State, who they beat by one point on the road early last season, on January 2nd. This will be the Dukes’ first home game since December 14th. Conference play starts January 8th, when Duquesne will host Fordham.
