Bill O’Brien has spent the past two years as the head coach of Penn State as they have rebuilt their program in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky scandal. He has compiled a 15-9 record during his tenure at Penn State and was named the 2012 Bear Bryant Coach of the Year and the ESPN National coach of the year.
He has several years of assistant coaching experience in the NFL, having been with the New England Patriots from 2007 until accepting the Penn State gig.
O’Brien interviewed for head coaching positions with the Cleveland Browns and Philadelphia Eagles last year but reaffirmed his desire to remain at Penn State, although he renegotiated his contract to have a lower buyout should he leave for a head coaching position in the NFL.
Should O’Brien leave the Nittany Lions, several candidates to replace him could include former Penn State offensive lineman and current Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Munchak as well as Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano, a former Penn state assistant.
