The Pittsburgh Riverhounds were sure they were going to have their first win of the season last night. If they would have, it would’ve been a big one.
The Riverhounds, who are second-to-last in the USL Eastern Conference, traveled down to Louisville Slugger Stadium to take on Louisville City FC. LCFC is currently number one in the Eastern Conference.
However, the Riverhounds were able to give them a run for their money, resulting in a 2-2 draw.
The Riverhounds were the first to get on the board, with a Romeo Parkes goal in the 10’ minute, and held LCFC scoreless the entire first half. That was a first half that included a minimum of 30 minutes weather delay that actually turned into a 58-minute delay.
That wasn’t the first delay of the evening. After coming back from the first delay, the Riverhounds and LCFC played out the last five minutes of the first half. The teams then took a five-minute break and then resumed play. The play only lasted eight minutes, and then another weather delay, this one for around 40 minutes, occurred.
After the delay, Louisville found its way on the scoreboard with a goal from Chandler Hoffman in the 57’ minute. The match got intense in the 73’ minute when Louisville’s goalkeeper Scott Goodwin was shown the red card for a foul on forward Corey Hertzog. Hertzog then lined up for a penalty kick and converted it, scoring his first goal of the season.
However, that wasn’t enough for the Riverhounds to claim a win. Late in the match, in the 86’ minute, Conor Shanosky found the back of Riverhounds goalkeeper Hunter Gilstrap’s net. The Riverhounds had two more attempts, from Hertzog in the 88’ minute and Stephen Okai in the 90’-plus minutes, to take back the lead, but the match was over with a draw.
As for the Riverhounds yellow card count in the match, the team had two given out. Conor Branson received the first yellow card in the 23’ minute, while Jordan Murrell received his yellow card in the 83’ minute. LCFC had one yellow card given to Ben Newnam in the 73’ minute.
The Riverhounds won’t be back in Pittsburgh for another few days, as the team has an away match against the Charleston Battery. The match will be on Saturday, April 30, and it will begin at 7:30 p.m. Fans can go to the USL’s official YouTube page to live stream the match.
