After three matches where the Pittsburgh Riverhounds didn’t lose a game, the team lost their battle against the Charlotte Independence on Saturday night.
The Riverhounds struggled on offense, but more on defense, allowing four goals past them to give the Independence the win. The Independence had goals scored by Brian Brown (37′), David Estrada (45’, 54’) and Jorge Herrera (90’+1’). Joel Johnson, Enzo Martinez and Aly Hassan all recorded assists.
The Riverhounds did pressure on offense for a bit, sending 15 shots, with seven being on goal, toward Independence goalkeeper John Berner. Berner saved all seven shots, while Riverhounds goalkeeper Zack Steffen recorded five saves.
Both teams had a yellow given out to one player. For the Riverhounds, Zak Boggs was the recipient of a yellow card in the 47’ minute. Estrada was the recipient for the Independence, earning his card in the 90’ minute.
The Riverhounds will now return home to Highmark Stadium on Wednesday, Sept. 14 to face FC Cincinnati. The two teams will face off for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
