The Pittsburgh Riverhounds woes continue with their 3-1 loss to Richmond Saturday.
After having one of their best matches of the season last week against the Charleston Battery, the Riverhounds had plenty of mistakes to reduce their record to 1-3-7.
The Riverhounds troubles started in the 17’ minute, when the Kickers’ Yudai Imura took a shot, which deflected off Conor Branson’s chest and went past goalkeeper Hunter Gilstrap, who started over Mauricio Vargas. Branson, who started at centerback due to Sergio Campbell’s suspension, thought a Kickers’ striker was offsides, and stopped during play.
That wasn’t the last own goal for the Riverhounds. The Riverhounds’ Hunter Gilstrap had an own goal of his own when Brian Ownby took a shot that deflected off the crossbar, but then hit Gilstrap in the back of the head, putting it in the net. The Kickers had another goal in the 68’ minute from striker Anthony Grant.
The Riverhounds didn’t get on the scoreboard until the 90’ minute when Corey Hertzog took advantage of poor clearance in the box from Richmond and put it behind goalkeeper Charlie Horton.
The Riverhounds kept a clean game, earning no yellow or red cards. The Kickers’ also did not receive any yellow cards.
As for milestones on the team, the match was Gilstrap’s 100th USL match.
The Riverhounds return to action at Highmark Stadium on Saturday, June 18 against FC Montreal. The match is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
