Saturday, Kevin Kerr scored his first goal of the season for the Pittsburgh Riverhounds against FC Montreal — and it hasn’t gone unnoticed. He was named to the USL Team of the Week following Pittsburgh’s win.
Kerr, who scored his goal in the 17th minute off an assist from fellow midfielder Jack Thompson, joins two other Riverhounds players who have made the USL Team of the Week this year. Goalkeeper Mauricio Vargas made the list first, followed by midfielder Lebo Moloto.
Kerr’s goal wasn’t the only reason he made the list. He also provided the assist on Corey Hertzog’s game-winning goal in the 27th minute. After the match, Kerr proclaimed his excitement over his goal that helped the team earn its second win of the season, which puts the Riverhounds at 2-7-3 record.
“I don’t even remember what happened before Jack (Thompson) got the ball,” Kerr said. “I just know that he played it through to me, and it felt like I had all the time in the world. The keeper was on one side, and it was one of the easiest goals I’ve ever scored.
“Every win is good, and we know we’ve let a lot of people down in the stadium when we keep losing and losing, but they kept supporting us,” Kerr continued. “It’s nice to give them a little something back, and hopefully there is more hope that we can turn the season around.”
Kerr and the Riverhounds will be back in action on Sat., June 25 against the Rochester Rhinos. The two teams met at Highmark Stadium back on April 2, when the Riverhounds fell to the Rhinos 0-1 in the season opener.
