Lebo Moloto’s exciting week continues.
A week after Pittsburgh Riverhounds goalkeeper Mauricio Vargas was named to the USL’s Team of the Week, Moloto made his own appearance on the list. Moloto, a midfielder, was named to the 11-player list for his efforts against Toronto FC II.
Against Toronto FC II — a match that was played on Moloto’s 26th birthday — he scored his first goal of the season. Off an assist from captain Kevin Kerr, Moloto, who is from South Africa, took the first shot of the game. After the goal (which was named one of the USL’s best goals of the week), he led his teammates in a group hug with former head coach Mark Steffens, who admitted he was shocked by the gesture that came in his last game as the Riverhounds’ head coach.
Moloto, who formerly played for United FC in South Africa and was drafted by the Seattle Sounders in the 2013 MLS Supplemental Draft, has played in six games for the Riverhounds this season, after fighting a bit of an injury early on in the preseason and regular season.
Moloto will look to help lead the Riverhounds to a second-straight victory — and possibly the team’s first away victory — against the New York Red Bulls on Saturday night. The two teams will meet in New York for their first meeting since April. The last time the two teams met, New York won, 3-1.
The match will begin at 10 p.m. EST and can be viewed on the USL’s official YouTube channel.
