Chevaughn Walsh had all eyes on him in the Pittsburgh Riverhounds’ 2-0 victory over Orlando City B.
The young Jamaican made his first start for the Riverhounds on Saturday night’s match in Orlando. In his first start, but his second appearance, the striker scored his first ever USL goal in the 23’ minute.
“It’s a great feeling,” Walsh said after the match. “I’ve been working hard, and I think it finally paid off. I’ve always been comfortable. We were under a situation [last week] against Harrisburg we had to get them to open up, and it was good. I am getting more and more comfortable being around professional-minded players.”
The Riverhounds’ second goal came from fellow striker Corey Hertzog. Hertzog’s goal came in the 90’+ minute, to secure the win for the Riverhounds. Both goals were assisted by captain Kevin Kerr.
Earning his first clean sheet since coming to the Riverhounds was goalkeeper Zack Steffen. With the release of goalkeeper Mauricio Vargas earlier in the week, Steffen cemented himself as the clear No. 1 goalkeeper – at least until the end of the season, as he’s a player on loan from the Columbus Crew of the MLS.
As for cautions, the Riverhounds only had one yellow card given out to defender Ryan Adeleye in the 81’ minute. Orlando City B had three yellow cards given out to Andrew Ribiero (16’), Harrison Heath (45’) and Kyle McFadden (74’).
The Riverhounds will now travel to Charlotte to face the Charlotte Independence on Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. After the match in Charlotte, the team will travel back to Pittsburgh to host FC Cincinnati on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m.
