Robert Morris men’s hockey associate head coach Matt Nicholson has moved on after six years with the program. He has taken a new job as the new head coach of the Amarillo Bulls of the NAHL.
“I’m very happy for Matt,” Colonials head coach Derek Schooley said in a statement. “He has dreamed of becoming a head coach and now he realizing his dream. I believe Matt will be successful in this next step in his coaching journey.
“I would like to thank him for a very successful six years and he will always have a place in Colonial hockey history. He has been a very good ambassador for Robert Morris University.”
Nicholson was an assistant coach for his first four years at Robert Morris and was associate head coach for the last two years.
His work with the Colonials focused on recruiting and the team’s forwards. A replacement has not yet been named.
“While Matt will be missed, I am sure we will be able to continue to find quality assistant coaches and staff members to continue the success of the previous seasons,” Schooley said.
Before coming to Robert Morris, Nicholson was an assistant coach at Division-III Adrian College. He had a two-year professional playing career in the Central Hockey League after his four collegiate years at Colgate University.
