The Robert Morris Colonials men’s ice hockey team will close out their 2014-15 season tonight against the Niagara Purple Eagles at 84 Lumber Arena at the Island Sports Center.
The result of the game won’t matter for either team. The Colonials (21-7-5) are locked into the number one seed going into the Atlantic Hockey tournament, and the Purple Eagles (5-24-4) are locked into the 11th and final place in the standings.
Instead, Derek Schooley’s squad will use its final game to celebrate the accomplishments of their four-member senior class.
The four seniors – all forwards – making up the RMU Hockey class of 2015 are Jeff Jones, David Rigatti, Scott Jacklin and team captain Cody Wydo.
Wydo is the program’s all-time leading scorer, with 40 points this season giving him 147 so far in his career. He is a 2015 Hobey Baker award nominee.
Jacklin, who skates alongside Wydo on the Colonials’ top line, also has over 100 points in his career and is the team’s third-leading scorer.
In addition, the team will be presented with their 2015 Atlantic Hockey regular season championship trophy. The team earned their first-ever conference regular season title on the road last weekend, so they will take the opportunity to show off their hardware for the Colonials faithful.
Faceoff between the Colonials and Purple Eagles is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. on Neville Island. The game can also be heard on ESPN Radio 970 AM with Steve Kolbe and Mike Prisuta.
