A big reason for the success of the Robert Morris men’s basketball team this season has been the play of freshman guard Marcquise Reed.
Tuesday Reed was honored, as well as a couple of his teammates, with some NEC hardware.
Reed was named the 2015 Northeast Conference Rookie of the Year, become the fourth RMU student athlete in history to capture the award.
During the regular season Reed averaged 14.9 points per game, ranking seventh in the NEC. He also has posted a team-high 56 steals in 30 games this season. His 1.87 steals per game average ranks Reed second in the conference.
In addition to being named rookie of the year, Reed also was named to the 2015 All-NEC Rookie Team and the 2015 All-NEC Second Team.
Reed joins teammates senior forward Lucky Jones and junior guard Rodney Pryor as members of the second team.
Jones has averaged 14.0 points and a team-high 6.3 rebounds per contest and has made an All-NEC team in each of his four years in a Colonials uniform.
Pryor leads Robert Morris in scoring at 15.3 points per game, which ranks sixth in the NEC.
He also ranks second in three-point field goal percentage (.430), fourth in three-point field goals made per game (.227) and eighth in field goal percentage (.484).
Robert Morris is back in action on Wednesday when they make its 12th consecutive appearance in the NEC Tournament, the longest active streak in the conference. The No. 2 seeded Colonials will host No. 7 seed Wagner in quarterfinal action.
