According to Adam Schefter quarterback Ben Roethlisberger had a minor scope on his right knee yesterday. This is a simple procedure that is done to clean up the knee and get it ready for activity. Seven years ago Roethlisberger had the same procedure done on his left knee and he has had no complications since.
Doctors operated on Ben Roethlisberger’s right meniscus. Same procedure done on left knee 7 years ago – knee perfect since.

… The rehab timetable for this surgery is generally around 4-6 weeks. Goal for Steelers in doing it now was to have Ben ready for camp.

Roethlisberger will be unable to workout for a while following this surgery, but he should be back in plenty of time for training camp.
This off-season Roethlisberger began working out earlier than in the past and his goal was to come into camp in better shape than in the past. Having this surgery done now is just another step in making sure that he is ready to go for training camp so that he can lead the offense and get ready for the 2013 season.
Last season the Pittsburgh Steelers offense played fairly well in the passing game. In fact, Ben Roethlisberger was having one of the best season of his NFL career prior to injuring his shoulder against the Kansas City Chiefs. After the injury the Steelers struggled on offense and when Roethlisberger returned the results were not the same.
Roethlisberger was vocal about his issues with the offense and the running game was, almost, non existent. According to Alan Robinson of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review Ben Roethlisberger is excited about where the offense is headed in 2013. Robinson says that the assistant coaches and Todd Haley himself weren’t happy with the offense last season.
For that reason Haley revamped the offense and the Steelers are hoping for better results in his second year as their offensive coordinator. Luckily for the Steelers quarterbacks have performed well in their second years under Haley in recent stops.
During Kurt Warner’s second season with Haley as offensive coordinator in Arizona he led the Cardinals to the Super Bowl. During the season Warner threw for 4583 yards, 30 touchdowns and only 14 interceptions. Of course, Warner had Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin at wide receiver, but his second season under Haley was very successful.
Matt Cassel, in Kansas City, also excelled in his second year under Haley with the Chiefs and that team didn’t have the weapons that the Cardinals had. In Cassel’s second year with the Chiefs he threw for 3116 yards, 27 touchdowns and only 7 interceptions. That was with an offense that had Dwayne Bowe and not much else.
Hopefully Roethlibserger can follow in their footsteps and excel in his second year under Haley.
