If Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell was expecting to find out before training camp if his initial three-game suspension for marijuana use and DUI would be reduced before training camp begins, he better not hold his breath.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell apparently doesn’t have any idea of when Bell’s appeal will be heard.
Goodell, speaking in Washington County on Tuesday, said he didn’t know the timetable for Bell’s appeal.
“That appeal is not heard by me, I would have to get somebody else to get a timeline on that,” Goodell said, per Mark Kaboly of the Pittsburgh Tribune.
Bell initially appealed his three-game ban back in April and almost four months later has not had any formal contact with the league on when his appeal will be officially heard.
With players set to report to training camp on Saturday, the longer this process drags on, the less of an ideal situation it becomes for the Steelers.
They did sign DeAngelo Williams in the offseason, who may fill in nicely if Bell’s suspension is kept at three games, but ideally the Steelers organization would like to know sooner rather than later if Bell’s suspension will be reduced.
Last season, his second in the NFL, Bell had a breakout season rushing for 1,361 yards and eight touchdowns, also catching 83 passes out of the backfield.
