Despite of positive reports earlier this week in regards to Ryan Shazier’s shoulder injury that had kept him out the past two games, Shazier has now been ruled out of the Steelers Monday night match up against the San Diego Chargers.
Shazier was a full participant in practices on Thursday and Friday, but missed practice today and subsequently was ruled out by the team earlier this afternoon.
After a breakout performance against the San Francisco 49ers where Shazier first injured his shoulder, the talented young linebacker has struggled to find his way back to the field despite of reports that he would be ready to play this week.
In the Week 2 game, Shazier had 15 total tackles (11 solo, four combined) and one sack of 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, as well as a forced fumble.
The loss of Shazier means Sean Spence will get his third consecutive start Monday night filling in for the 2014 first-round draft pick who has missed 11 games already for his career.
Along with Shazier, Martavis Bryant may also miss the Charger contest after hurting his knee in practice earlier this week. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has, to no surprise, also been ruled out. Cornerback Cortez Allen (knee) is listed as questionable.
