The Pittsburgh Pirates suffered a no-hitter Saturday evening in the 6-0 loss to the Washington Nationals at Nationals Park.
Washington pitcher Max Scherzer pitched the second no-hitter in Nationals history, striking out ten Pirates in the process. Scherzer pitched his second straight complete game and the third of his career.
The Pirates entered the game on an eight-game winning streak. Prior to Saturday, Pittsburgh has scored one run in the 18 innings played in D.C.
Scherzer’s only blemish in his perfect game came with two outs in the ninth inning. The pitcher hit pinch-hitter Jose Tabata on the elbow with two strikes in the count.
The Nationals’ Bryce Harper hit his 23rd home run of the season with a solo shot in the fourth inning, setting his new career high.
The Pirates will face the Nationals at 1:35 p.m. ET Sunday at Nationals Park in the final game of the series.
