Coming into the season, the Pittsburgh Steelers were desperate for a playmaker in their struggling secondary.
They thought they had that guy with 2015 second-round draft pick Senquez Golson.
Now it looks as if they may have to wait a lot while longer to find out if Golson is going to be the playmaker that they think he is.
Golson has been on the PUP list with a shoulder injury since the beginning of training camp and now, according to the Post Gazette’s Ed Bouchette, Golson’s season could be in jeopardy.
Bouchette notes that the Steelers are considering several options for Golson, including having him undergo season-ending shoulder surgery.
Golson went through spring practices with no apparent injury, but told the team that he thought he injured his shoulder during that time.
His injury status is one of the main reasons that the tam traded for Brandon Boykin on Saturday.
Golson picked off 10 passes last season at Ole Miss, which was second in the nation to Steelers’ seventh-round draft choice Gerod Holliman, who had 14.
While the Golson news is certainly bad for the Steelers, they did get some good news on Monday when All-Pro center Maurkice Pouncey was activated off the PUP list.
Pouncey had been dealing with a minor ankle injury.
