The Pittsburgh Steelers will be missing at least seven players when they take the field on Friday for their second preseason game of 2015 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Three players – backup quarterback Bruce Gradkowski, backup tackle Mike Adams and rookie cornerback Senquez Golson – remain on the physically unable to perform list and are not eligible to practice or play.
Additionally, safeties Robert Golden (knee) and Ross Ventrone (ankle), inside linebacker Vince Williams (hamstring) and nose tackle Daniel McCullers (hamstring) were ruled out of Friday’s game by head coach Mike Tomlin.
Kicker Shaun Suisham and running back Cameron Stingily were both expected to undergo knee surgeries on Wednesday, and their status has not yet been updated. Suisham is expected to miss the remainder of the season.
All of the other players on the team’s roster have a chance to play on Friday according to Tomlin.
“Our intention at this point, is that all healthy men are going to play,” Tomlin said is his press conference. “How much they play will be determined positionally.”
Ben Roethlisberger is expected to start at quarterback and play 10-12 snaps before giving way to Landry Jones. Undrafted rookie Tyler Murphy is also expected to get some snaps.
The Steelers will practice tonight at 5:30 in their only night practice at Saint Vincent College this training camp.
It will be the team’s last practice before their Friday game in Jacksonville. The team has a travel day on Thursday.
Friday’s game has a 7:30 p.m. kickoff and will be televised locally on KDKA-TV.
