There’s still a long way to go until Jamie Dixon and the Pitt basketball program opens up the 2014-15 season, but unfortunately they will be doing so without incoming freshman Shaquille Doorson.
Many were excited that the big man initially committed to Pitt, but Doorson has officially decommitted from Pitt and will be heading to Rutgers instead.
Someone had to go as the Panthers were over their scholarship limit and Doorson appeared to be the odd man out, but it appears to be a mutual decision between the school and Doorson.
There was a lot to like about Doorson coming to Pitt, mostly his size.
Doorson stands 6’11” and weighs 265 pounds but was considered a project.
He’s only been playing for two and a half years, but has great hands and can get up and down the floor.
However many believe that it could take him some time to truly learn how to play the game.
With the move, there is a good chance that center Joseph Uchebo, who had some mobility issues last year in recovering from a knee injury, will be staying on with the Panthers. Uchebo’s name had previously been whispered as someone who could be released from his scholarship if Pitt were over the limit.
