KANSAS CITY — The Slippery Rock University women’s soccer team moved up four places to No. 10 in the latest NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division II national rankings released Tuesday by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
The Rock, which was ranked No. 14 in the preseason rankings, opened their season last week with a 1-0 win on the road at Wheeling Jesuit. Slippery Rock was dominant in that match, allowing just one shot on goal and posting a 9-0 edge in corner kicks.
SRU is ranked No. 2 in the first Atlantic Region rankings, which were also released Tuesday by the NSCAA. California (Pa.) was ranked atop the Atlantic Region and was ranked No. 4 nationally. The only other Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference team in the national rankings is West Chester, which moved into the poll at No. 22 after opening the year with two wins.
Slippery Rock will open the home and PSAC portions of its schedule Wednesday when Mercyhurst visits Egli Field for a 4 p.m. match.
