One night after taking down the 9th-ranked Baltimore Hawks 127-119, the Steel City Yellow Jackets crushed an overmatched Team Network (Detroit) 170-118.
Team Network (1-1) arrived late for the game, pushing the start back 30 minutes, and never did get their game going in this one, falling behind 86-47 at the half. The Yellow Jackets (2-0) dominated the boards and outrebounded Team Network by a 72-49 margin and also limited their turnovers to 14, showing a great improvement over opening night.
Gerald Brooks was a force off the bench again by leading Steel City in points (27) and rebounds (15) and shot 10 of 11 on field goals and added seven free throws.
Lawrence Baker dominated inside with 21 points and 12 boards. Maurice Mendoza added 21 points and nine boards. Other top points performers included Castile (25 points) and Antonio Reddic (20 points). Mendoza and Reddic once again put on a mini dunk contest during the game for the Steel City faithful which helped ignite the crowd.
Team Network’s offense was built around Kyle Gupton who poured in a game-high 41 points in the losing effort including 8 of 15 from the three point arc. Rob Collins added 18 points and nine boards and Eddie Wallace posted 12 points and 5 boards.
Steel City will be on the road next week and will be the featured game of the week on ESPN3 as they take on the Brooklyn Skyrockets November 15th and they will play a second game against Brooklyn the next day.
