The Steel City Yellow Jackets got their franchise off to the right start with a 127-119 win over the visiting Baltimore Hawks Saturday night. It was the inaugural game and home opener for the city’s newest pro basketball team.
Fans crowded into the bleachers at CCAC Allegheny campus on the North Side to see what the buzz was about. They were loud and boisterous the entire night as they saw the Yellow Jackets (1-0) lead for most of the game. The crowd was especially alive on a few thunderous dunks by Antonio Reddic and Maurice Mendoza.
Lawrence Baker led the Yellow Jackets in scoring with 25 points by making 10 of 11 field goals, four of five free throws and he made his only three point shot of the night. Baker also added a team-high 10 rebounds.
Gerald Brooks posted 23 points, 11 from the line and had 9 boards to also make his presence felt off the bench. Reddic also crossed the 20 point mark on the strength of a 10 for 19 shooting night.
Jarwand Rheubottom led all players with 28 points and 11 rebounds for the Baltimore Hawks (0-1) in a losing effort.
Steel City will play another home game tomorrow (Sunday November 9th) against Team Network. For more information visit the Yellow Jackets website at www.catchthebuzz.net
