The Pittsburgh Steelers have added wide receiver Martavis Bryant to their 53-man roster, which will allow him to take part in the team’s game next Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals.
Bryant, 23, missed Monday night’s game in San Diego with a knee injury. He missed the first four weeks of the season while serving a suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.
The nature of Bryant’s knee injury is unknown, and his health for next week’s game could still be in question. The Steelers were required to reinstate Bryant to the roster from his suspension no later than today.
The Steelers offense will receive a boost from the return of the second-year player from Clemson when he finally does play. Bryant played in 10 games as a rookie in 2014, catching 26 passes for 549 yards and eight touchdowns.
To make room on their roster, the Steelers released veteran safety Ross Ventrone. Through five games, Ventrone did not have a tackle and primary played on special teams.
Ventrone suffered a hamstring injury in the team’s victory over the Charges on Monday and did not return to action. If he clears waivers, he would be eligible to re-join the team when healthy.
Ventrone was in his third season with the Steelers. He is a Pittsburgh native and graduated from Chartiers Valley High School.
