The Pittsburgh Steelers signed two players off waivers, released two players from their 53-man roster, and signed 10 players to the teams practice squad.
Joining the 53-man roster for the Steelers are running back Jordan Todman and defensive end Caushaud Lyons.
Todman comes to the Steelers after being cut by the Carolina Panthers. The 25-year old back and University of Connecticut product was drafted in the sixth round of the 2011 NFL draft by the San Diego Chargers. Prior to being in training camp with Carolina, Todman previously played for the Chargers, Vikings and Jaguars. He gives the Steelers backfield needed depth heading in to the first two weeks of the season with LeVeon Bell being suspended. To make room on for Todman, cornerback Doran Grant was released.
A defensive end out of Division 2 Tusculum College, Lyons joins the Steelers’ roster after being among the final cuts in Tampa Bay. A Gene Upshaw Award finalist, Lyons was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Buccaneers earlier this season. He looks to add valuable depth to the Steeler defensive front seven. Linebacker Anthony Chickillo was waiver in order to make room for Lyons.
Every NFL team is allocated 10 players to sign to their practice squad. The 10 members of the practice squad to start the season for the Steelers will be:
