The Pittsburgh Steelers announced their 2015 preseason schedule on Thursday afternoon.
As previously announced, the Steelers will kick off the NFL preseason in the Hall of Fame Game on August 9 against the Minnesota Vikings. The game will be played at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio, which is adjacent to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Legendary Steelers running back Jerome Bettis will be inducted into the hall of fame that weekend. The game will be televised on NBC at 8 p.m.
The four other preseason games will be shown on KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh. Specific dates and times for those games have not been announced.
Week one of the preseason will see the Steelers visit the Jacksonville Jaguars. A pair of Penn State grads will be grabbing headlines for the Jaguars, with Pro Bowler Paul Posluszny anchoring the defense and second-year wide receiver Allen Robinson lining up as one of Blake Bortles’ primary targets.
The Steelers will make their 2015 Heinz Field debut in week two against the reigning NFC North champions, the Green Bay Packers. Pittsburgh-native Mike McCarthy will be making a rare trip home as the Packers’ head coach. The Packers haven’t played a regular-season game in Pittsburgh since 2009.
In week three, the Steelers will visit the Buffalo Bills with new head coach Rex Ryan and former Pitt Panthers running back LeSean McCoy, who was acquired in a big offseason trade with the Philadelphia Eagles. The Steelers beat the Bills in a game at Heinz Field in the 2014 preseason.
The black and gold will wrap up their preseason with a home game against the Carolina Panthers in week four. The Steelers and Panthers have a long-running preseason series. The Steelers are 5-2 in their last seven preseason games against Carolina, but the Panthers have won two years in a row.
The Steelers regular season schedule will be announced later this month.
