LANDOVER, Md. – The Steelers fell to 0-2 in the preseason last night with a 24-13 loss to the Washington Redskins. Ben Roethlisberger started the game and completed five passes in six attempts for 66 yards. The only incompletion was an interception thrown to Redskins defensive lineman Ryan Kerrigan, who returned the ball 22 yards for the Redskins first touchdown at the time.
Markus Wheaton caught three passes for 52 yards and Emmanuel Sanders pulled in two catches for 39 yards. First-year wide receiver Derek Moye accounted for the only Steelers touchdown of the night, which came on a 10-yard strike from rookie Landry Jones. Jones completed nine passes in 22 attempts for 111 yards. Ten different players caught a pass for the Steelers.
Shaun Suisham was two for two in field goals and was good from 28 and 30 yards.
Robert Griffin III was inactive and backup quarterback Kirk Cousins left the game due to an injury which led to Rex Grossman playing the rest of the game for the Redskins. With the exception of his interception thrown to Da’Mon Cromartie-Smith, Grossman looked pretty solid for the Redskins, completing ten passes in sixteen attempts for 133 yards and a touchdown.
Rookie running back Le’veon Bell left the game due to an injury after the first drive of the game. He ran the ball on the first four plays of the game, but did not return to the game due to a foot injury.
The offensive line struggled early and allowed four sacks altogether.
Up next, the Steelers will face the Kansas City Chiefs Saturday night. Kickoff at 7:30 P.M.
