The Pittsburgh Steelers are on the verge of bolstering their tight end corps. The Steelers are expected to sign former San Diego Chargers tight end Ladarius Green.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported the expected signing, which is to happen today.
Green, 25, began his career with the Chargers in 2012. He was the team’s fourth-round draft pick, and 110th overall. In his first season, he mainly took a backseat to veteran tight end Antonio Gates. However, his career took off in his second year, where he appeared in 16 games and started 10 games.
This past 2015 season, Green started 11 out of 13 games he appeared in. He recorded 37 receptions for 429 yards. He caught four touchdowns, bringing his career total to seven as he caught three in his sophomore season. Green’s numbers in 2015 were the best of his career.
Now the 6-foot-6 Green will be joining Matt Spaeth and Jesse James on the Steelers roster. Green, who was born in Berlin, Germany to military serving parents, is a young, solid replacement for the recently retired Heath Miller. Miller and Green are about the same size. Green has an inch on Miller and is about ten pounds lighter.
The Steelers are expected to make an announcement today on the signing of Green. Terms of the contract, including financial terms and years under contract, have not been disclosed.
