Midway through the 2014 preseason, the Pittsburgh Steelers have extended the contract of tackle Marcus Gilbert through the 2019 season. The fourth-year tackle, drafted in the second round in 2011, will play for Pittsburgh through at least six more seasons and will make about $30 million.
Gilbert has started 34 games in the black and gold and the former Florida Gator will continue to play alongside his college teammate, center Maurkice Pouncey, who was also recently extended through the 2019 season. This solidification of the offensive line is a welcome site for the organization and franchise quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.
The Steelers also added to the roster Tuesday, welcoming back veteran defensive end Brett Keisel. Keisel, 36, was drafted in 2002 (seventh round) and has spent his entire career in Pittsburgh. After losing Darnell Dockett to a season-ending injury, the Arizona Cardinals had hosted Keisel recently and reportedly offered him a contract today, but Adam Schefter reported that the offer was turned down. Keisel instead returns to Dick LeBeau’s defense, joining a youthful front that will include Cameron Heyward, Cam Thomas and rookie Stephon Tuitt.
