With the preseason behind us and kickoff for the 2014 season less than a week away, tough decisions come for NFL organizations and prospective players realize harsh realities as teams need to cut their rosters down to 53 players.
Notably for the Steelers, they have placed LB Jordan Zumwalt on injured reserve and claimed CB B.W. Webb off of waivers. Now to the cuts, by position:
QB: Brendon Kay (Ben Roethlisberger, Bruce Gradkowski and Landry Jones remain on the roster)
RB: Josh Harris and Stephen Houston
WR: Even starting preseason with 11 on the roster, Derek Moye is a surprise on this list…Lanear Sampson was also cut
TE: Rookie Rob Blanchflower, Bryce Davis and David Paulson (who had some key drops and fumbles last season)
O-Line: Graham Pocic, Will Simmons and Guy Whimper
D-Line: Ethan Hemer, Josh Mauro, Roy Philon and Nick Williams
DB: Isaiah Green, Dayonne Nunley, Shaquille Richardson (spoken highly of all preseason, but still unable to make the team) and former Chartiers Valley High School’s Ross Ventrone
LB: With Sean Spence’s injury not looking serious, and Arthur Moats doing a good job, Chris Carter, Howard Jones and Dan Molls did not make the roster
Now that the roster is officially set, in come the Cleveland Browns next Sunday, Sept. 7 at 1:00 p.m., let’s get this season started!
