Last Sunday’s game seems like forever ago but it was an important one for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
While they may be on the outside looking in on the playoff race, they showed they still have some fight left in them when they took down division rival Cincinnati.
A big part of that win was the pressure on quarterback Andy Dalton and the way the Steelers defensive line shut down the Bengals running game.
The Bengals were averaging nearly 116 rushing yards per game with their dual-back system of rookie Gio Bernard and BenJarvus Geen-Ellis. During the game with the Steelers last week, a game in which the Steelers won 30-20, the Bengals were only able to rush for 57 yards. The Steelers held the team’s leading rusher, Geen-Ellis, to just four yards on four carries.
In the passing game, the Steelers D-line was able to get pressure on Dalton time and time again. Al Woods was able to knock down a pass on a critical third down and Ziggy Hood was able to get a sack and recover a fumble that would lead to a field goal.
Hood and Woods finished with 4 tackles each while Cam Heyward posted 3 tackles on the night.
For their strong performance in the victory, the Pittsburgh Steelers defensive line unit is this week’s Pittsburgh Sporting News players of the week.
