Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey and tight end Heath Miller have been selected to the 2013 AFC Pro Bowl team announced today by the NFL. The Steelers are sending multiple players to the Pro Bowl for the 12th straight season and the 21st time in the last 24 seasons.
Pouncey is making his third consecutive trip to the Pro Bowl, including his second as a starter. He has started 14-of-15 games this season, including one at left guard, and has quickly become the leader on a youthful offensive line.
Miller, who was placed on the team’s Reserve/Injured List today, was selected to his second Pro Bowl after being named to the AFC squad following the 2009 season. Before suffering a season-ending knee injury in Week 16 against the Cincinnati Bengals, Miller had a team-high 71 receptions and a career-best 816 receiving yards, and he tied for the team lead in receiving touchdowns with a career-high eight on the season.
The Pro Bowl will be played Sunday, January 27, 2013, at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii and televised by NBC at 7 p.m. Eastern. The Pro Bowl squads were selected by a combined voting of fans, players and coaches.
Steelers Quotes on Making the 2013 Pro Bowl
CENTER MAURKICE POUNCEY:
“It is awesome. This time is going to be a little more stressful because I finally get to go to it. The first time we were in the Super Bowl (XLV) and last year I didn’t get to go because of offseason surgery. It means a lot to take my family to Hawaii and spend some vacation time and then get the chance to play in the game with so many great players.”
TIGHT END HEATH MILLER:
“It’s definitely an honor to be named to the Pro Bowl team. It’s not why I play the game, and I am sure all of our guys would say the same thing. But you take it as a compliment. I wish it were under different circumstances, but it’s an honor and something to be proud of.”
