After throwing four interceptions against the Philadelphia Eagles in the first half of their meeting on August 18, the Steelers pulled Landry Jones out and put Dustin Vaughan in the game. However, Vaughan suffered a broken thumb.
With the injury, the Steelers announced they have signed quarterback Bryn Renner. However, the team did not release Vaughan.
Renner is a 26-year-old quarterback who, in 2014, was on the Denver Broncos’ roster. He then made his way to the Arizona Rattlers, an arena football team, in 2015. In 2015, he was also on the rosters of the Baltimore Ravens and the Tennessee Titans. In 2016, Renner signed with the San Diego Chargers before making his way to Pittsburgh.
Renner, a graduate of the University of North Carolina, has never played in a regular-season NFL game.
Renner will presumably make his preseason debut against the New Orleans Saints on Friday, August 26. The game, which will be played in New Orleans, will have a kickoff of 8 p.m.
