The Pittsburgh Steelers have locked down Darrius Heyward-Bey. On the same day that the team signed safety Robert Golden to a three year contract, the team also signed the receiver to a three year contract.
While Golden’s deal was for $5 million, Heyward-Bey’s deal is for only $3.8 million over three years. The signing of Heyward-Bey means that all the Steelers wide receivers of Antonio Brown, Martavis Bryant, Markus Wheaton, and Sammie Coats are now all under contract with the organization.
Heyward-Bey’s NFL career first started with the Oakland Raiders. Picked seventh overall in the 2009 NFL Draft, Heyward-Bey enjoyed a four-year career in Oakland. In 2013, he went to Indianapolis to play for the Colts. He lasted only one season there and then came to Pittsburgh in 2014.
In 2015 Heyward-Bey wasn’t a much used target. He was targeted few times, but in those few times he made splash plays that helped the offense move down the field. He had 21 receptions for 314 yards in 2015, but only had two touchdowns.
Heyward-Bey is the fourth listed receiver on the team’s depth chart. Heyward-Bey is a substitute receiver, as he has only started four games last season for the Steelers.
