The Pittsburgh Steelers made a minor depth move on Wednesday, re-signing defensive end Clifton Geathers to a one-year contract.
Financial terms of the deal were not released, but it will likely be for the league minimum or close to it.
Geathers is a six-year pro and signed with the Steelers in December of last season after veteran Brett Keisel went down with a season-ending injury.
He didn’t make an impact as Geathers was inactive for the team’s final four regular season games as well as their playoff loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
Geathers was originally a sixth-round draft pick out of South Carolina by the Cleveland Browns in 2010.
Since then Geathers has been a journeyman, also playing for the Miami Dolphins, Dallas Cowboys, Seattle Seahawks, Indianapolis Colts, Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins prior to signing with the Steelers last season.
In his career, Geathers has been active for 37 career games, starting one. He has recorded a total of 24 tackles and one quarterback sack.
Geathers is a depth piece for training camp that likely will find a difficult time making the team. As it stands right now he will compete with Ethan Hemer, Joe Kruger and Matt Conrath for a backup spot on the defensive line.
