After missing two crucial fourth-quarter kicks during Thursday’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens, it was only a matter of time before kicker Josh Scobee packed his bags and headed out of town.
That became official on Saturday when, according to ESPN’s Adam Caplan, the Steelers signed kicker Chris Boswell and released Scobee.

Scobee, who is making over $3.5 million this season and who the Steelers gave up a sixth-round draft choice to acquire, has struggled all season, making just 3-of-7 field goals beyond 40 yards.
Less than two weeks ago, coach Mike Tomlin said he had no concerns about Scobee after the kicker missed two field goals in the season opener against the New England Patriots and an extra point in Week 2.
Tomlin’s opinion quickly changed after Thursday night.
Boswell went undrafted out of Rice last year and has spent time with both the New York Giants and Houston Texans, but has never kicked in an NFL game.
The Steelers have struggled with kickers all season long watching both Shaun Suisham and Garrett Hartley get injured in the preseason and watching Scobee struggle big time.
