When the Pittsburgh Steelers signed veteran Lance Moore last offseason, many people were excited about the role that Moore could play in the Steelers offense.
But instead of being a replacement for Jerricho Cotchery and Emmanuel Sanders, Moore turned out to be a big disappointment in his only season with the Steelers.
After signing a two-year deal last year, Moore won’t be around to see the end of it as the Steelers released the veteran on Monday.
Moore was a healthy scratch during the Steelers playoff loss against the Baltimore ravens and shortly after asked for his release.
The Steelers granted his wish.
The 31-year old was injured to start the season and never really found a role in the Steelers offense, catching just 14 passes for 198 yards and two touchdowns last season.
Early on Mike Tomlin and his staff favored Justin Brown over Moore and by the end of the season rookie Martavis Bryant emerged as a threat, bumping Moore further on down the depth chart.
Moore has been productive in the past and as recently as 2012 put up a 1,000-yard season.
It was clear that entering the offseason that he would be no better than the Steelers fourth receiver so now he is free to find a better opportunity.
