After firing offensive line coach Jack Bicknell Jr. shortly after the season ended, the Pittsburgh Steelers have yet to fill that void, but reportedly have their targets set on a big name.
According to Jason LaCanfora of CBS Sports, former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Munchak reportedly met with the Steelers on Friday about becoming their offensive line coach.
The interest in Munchak makes a lot of sense for both parties as Munchak was a successful line coach with the Houston Oilers and Titans before getting bumped up to the top job in 2011 and it’s looking like his best chance to return to the head coaching ranks could be a brief stop as the Steelers offensive line coach.
Munchak finished with a career record of 22-26 as a head coach in Tennessee and after his firing has interviewed for the head coaching jobs in Detroit and at Penn State, but both of those jobs have gone to other candidates.
He also has interviewed with the Cleveland Browns and reportedly interviewed for the Houston Texans’ offensive line coach opening.
Thanks to inconsistent play on the offensive line, the Steelers are looking for their third line coach in as many years.
Munchak could be as good as a fit as any.
