The Pittsburgh Steelers have named their four team captains for the 2016-2017 NFL season. The team took a vote and, for the second year in a row, named Ben Roethlisberger, Cameron Heyward, William Gay and Robert Golden as the captains.
Roethlisberger is the lone offensive captain, and Golden is the lone special teams captain, while Gay and Heyward both share the defensive captain role.
Roethlisberger has been a captain for the Steelers eight times. He was elected captain in 2008 and 2009 and has been a captain since 2011. Golden has been a captain for three years, since 2013. This is both the second year for Heyward and Gay.
The players, as well as the other members of the Steelers 53-man roster, will take to the field on Sept. 12 for their first regular season game against the Washington Redskins. The game will be aired on primetime, Monday Night Football on ESPN.
