One day after drafting a coveted pass rusher in Kentucky’s Bud Dupree, the Pittsburgh Steelers finally addressed the secondary in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft.
The Steelers selected Ole Miss cornerback Senquez Golson with the No. 56 pick overall.
Golson stands 5-foot-9 and had been moving up draft boards prior to the draft, although most draft experts had him penciled in as a third or fourth-round pick.
He has speed and is projected as a nickel back by most scouts, although he has the ability to play both inside and outside.
Golson played in 49 games in four season for Ole Miss, but took off during his senior campaign.
He is not afraid to tackle, recording 33 solo tackles and a total of 43 tackles on the season.
In all his time at Ole Miss, Golson showed the ability to find the football, finishing with a total of 16 interceptions.
A lot of scouts like Golson’s speed as he ran a 4.46 40-yard dash at the Combine.
The Steelers were rumored to be interested in moving up in the second round, as it was reported they had contacted the Tennessee Titans for the No. 33 overall selection, but ultimately they ended up staying put at No. 56 as the New York Giants moved up and selected Alabama safety Landon Collins.
