The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed another one of their draft picks from the Class of 2015, coming to terms with fifth-round pick Jesse James on Thursday.
James, a tight end out of Penn State, was the No. 160 overall selection in the 2015 NFL Draft.
He caught 38 passes for 396 yards and three touchdowns last season for the Nittany Lions. He declared for the draft after his junior season, finishing with 78 receptions for 1,005 yards and 11 touchdowns.
The 11 touchdowns is a Penn State record for tight ends.
James is a big target, standing 6-foot-7 and was named honorable mention All-Big Ten last season.
He has some speed and was pretty effective working the seam in college. His height also could lead him to becoming a big red zone threat in the NFL.
On the negative side, James is just a so-so run blocker and not a great route runner as he struggles to get separation off the line of scrimmage.
While he isn’t a finished project yet, James has the tools to develop and with Heath Miller not getting any younger, the Steelers could be a good situation for the South Allegheny High School graduate.
The Steelers have now signed five of their eight draft picks.
