The Pittsburgh Steelers made another minor move in free agency this offseason on Thursday by signing linebacker Shayon Greene.
Greene played both defensive end and middle linebacker at the University of Miami and should get a look at both linebacker spots in camp.
It will be a tough road for Greene to make the team, but that is nothing new for the former Hurricane.
Greene tore his ACL twice while in college, but turned in a productive college career nonetheless, recording 143 tackles and three sacks with Miami from 2010-13.
He went undrafted last season and signed with the Miami Dolphins, but was released and didn’t play football last season.
He took part in Miami’s pro day on Wednesday and must have shown enough for the Steelers to sign him the next day.
Greene’s signing gives the Steelers 13 linebackers at the moment, but not many have experience at being productive at the NFL level.
In other Steelers news, it was announced that voluntary strength and conditioning workouts will begin April 20.
Rookie minicamp will be held May 8-10; voluntary spring practices May 26-28, June 2-4 and June 8-11, and spring workouts will conclude with a required minicamp June 16-18.
