The Pittsburgh Steelers addressed some needs during the first two days of the 2015 NFL Draft by grabbing Kentucky linebacker Bud Dupree, Ole Miss corner Senquez Golson and Auburn wide receiver Sammie Coates.
They did the same to start day three of the draft when they nabbed Ohio State cornerback Doran Grant with the No. 22 pick of the fourth round, No. 121 overall.
Depth at cornerback was a need coming into this draft and the Steelers gabbed a pair among their first four selections.
Grant stand 5-foot-10, weighs 200 pounds and has a reputation as a solid tackler.
He started all 15 games for the Buckeyes last season and was an All-Big Ten selection.
While Grant is aggressive in coming up to play the run, he also has the speed and physicality to hold his own in man coverage. He will come in and compete for playing time right away in the Steelers secondary, but also could become a solid special teams contributor right off the bat.
The bad part is that Grant is the second small corner the Steelers have drafted so far.
Grant had some problems while at Ohio State dealing with bigger wide receivers and that could be an issue translating his game to the NFL level.
Overall though Grant is considered a smart player with great instincts and while he may not be able to play on the outside in the NFL, the Steelers need depth at the cornerback spot and Grant will add to that.
