The Steelers may have to order a new pair of receivers gloves if Jay Feely makes the team. Yes, Feely is a kicker. Pittsburgh Sporting News can confirm that the Steelers intend to bring in the 39-year-old glove-wearing, veteran kicker for a tryout after starting kicker Shaun Suisham was ruled out for the season with a torn ACL.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport was first on the report.
The 14-year veteran has played for for six different teams, most notably in Arizona as the kicker for the Cardinals. Feely was out of football for the majority of the 2014-2015 season until the Chicago Bears brought him along for four games last year. He was 3-4 with Chicago.
Feely’s best kicking season came in 2007 when he finished 21-23 for a 91.3 field goal percentage.
Feely, who booted a 61-yard field goal in 2012, will be joined by Garrett Hartley and Alex Henery for competition for the job, according to Rapoport’s report.
