After their offense struggled last night, Jovan Rosa and Maxx Garrett made sure the Wild Things had some offensive fire power tonight, as Washington got a 8-0 victory at Console Energy Park.
Everything started with a strong pitching performance from Shawn Sanford. Sanford had a no hitter going until the last out in the top of the fifth inning. After that, he only gave up two more hits the rest of the game before coming out after the eighth inning.
CJ Beatty started off the 4th inning with a single, which eventually led to two runs later in the inning. Jim Vahalik followed suit with a single, which was followed by a slew of errors and credited stolen bases on a Garrett triple that was stretched a little too far.
Rosa started off the very next inning by ripping an RBI double. Rosa would have to wait two batters but eventually he was driven in by Vahalik. After a Nick Akins single, Garrett capitalized again with two run single which landed him on second after he advanced on the throw. This took the lead from 2-0 to 6-0 going into the 6th.
In the 6th, Rosa hit a two run shot to cap off the final score at 8-0.
The Wild Things looked completely different from last night, where they struggled to capitalize with runners on base. After stranding twelve batters last night, the Wild Things stranded ten batters tonight, but managed to drive runners in when it mattered most in the middle innings.
Sanford finished eight innings without allowing a single run on three hits, three walks, and seven strikeouts. Zach Fleshman came in and pitched a perfect ninth, striking out one and not allowing a hit. Sanford is now 3-0 with a 1.03 ERA on the season.
Rosa went 3-5 with three RBI’s and Garrett went 2-3 with three RBI’s, also. Shain Stoner, Vahalik, and Akins each added two hits on the night.
Shortstop Luis Parache finished with two hits for the Greys.
The two teams will finish up their three game series tomorrow night at Console Energy Park at 7:05 pm ET. Shawn Blackwell will take the hill for the Wild Things and will take on Eric Wooten of the Greys. Blackwell is 1-2 with a 5.29 ERA. Wooten is 3-1 with a 2.91 ERA.
