The Pittsburgh Penguins still have some decisions to make in regards to the makeup of their forward corps for the 2015-16 season. They have a few internal options that they may turn to if need be, but with the free agency period fast approaching, it will soon be time to make a decision on the impending free agents. As of now, the only player whose future is clear is right-winger Craig Adams, as the Penguins already informed him that <a ... Read More
First period failures standing between Pens, victory
The Pittsburgh Penguins, down two games to one in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals to the New York Rangers, do not face a must-win situation in Game 4 tonight at Consol Energy Center. It does feels like one, though. A win would send the Penguins back to New York with the series evened and assured that a pivotal Game 6 would be played on home ice. With a loss, the Penguins will face elimination in Madison Square Garden on Friday, and would have to win three straight games to move on to ... Read More

The Blues out shot the Penguins 33-26 in regulation, and with the score knotted at 2-2, Alexander Steen redirected Zbynek Michalek’s wrist shot past Fleury to give the Blues a 3-2 overtime victory at Consol Energy Center. After a scoreless first period – the ... Read More
Penguins get untracked against hapless Coyotes
For the Penguins, a win – any win – is a welcome sight after losing four straight games over the last week. The Penguins 3-1 victory over Arizona Coyotes, however, is hardly an accomplishment worth celebrating. The Coyotes, now losers of six straight games and 16 of their last 17, seemed particularly uninterested in taking the play to the Penguins, despite a lackluster first period from the black and gold. The Penguins were completely outplayed through the first 20 minutes, and were ... Read More
Power play leads Pens past Blue Jackets

In Sunday night’s 5-3 win over Columbus, the Penguins power play went 3-for-6 on 14 shots and accounted for the entire margin of victory. The teams took a little while to adjust to the odd 5:00 p.m. start, and the first period was scoreless until the 17:33 mark, when James Wisniewski ... Read More
Mailbag: Five questions about the Daniel Winnik trade
What type of player are the Penguins getting? During a radio interview with 105.9 The X on Thursday, Winnik used one word to describe his game – heavy. It’s an accurate description. Winnik even plays bigger than his 6’2”, 210-pound frame, and is a productive player in the dirty areas of ice such as the offensive corners and in front of the net. He’s much more than a mere tough guy, though. He uses his size and strength to drive the offense to the front of the net and pull defenders away ... Read More
