After suffering their first loss of the season last week, the 3-1 Panthers will look to get back on the winning track in their final non-conference game of the season against the 1-2 Zips. A victory over Akron would give Pitt its first 4-1 start since 2009. Who has the advantage? Let’s take a look. When: Saturday, September 27 Where: Heinz ... Read More

James Conner playing defense should be scrapped by Pitt
Pitt Panthers running back James Conner has certainly been the talk of the town after helping lead the Panthers to a 2-0 start, rushing for 372 yards (second in the nation) and five touchdowns on a mere 50 attempts to start the season. If you are scoring at home, that’s a 7.3 yards per carry average and an average of 183.5 yards per game, one of the top marks in all of college football. However the question on everyone’s mind is when will we see Conner play on defense? That answer ... Read More

For the second consecutive week, the Pitt Panthers football team turned in an impressive performance and for the second straight week they racked up some weekly ACC honors. Sophomore running back James Conner was named the ACC’s Offensive Back of the Week, senior tackle T.J. Clemmings was selected Offensive Lineman of the Week and sophomore placekicker Chris Blewitt was named Specialist of the Week following Pitt’s 30-20 road victory over Boston College. Pitt passes first ACC test of season; beats BC 30-20
After their impressive week one performance against FCS Delaware, many wondered how the Pitt Panthers would respond against better competition. Thanks to another impressive effort from their offense, Paul Chryst’s team passed that test as well, and did so on the road with a 30-20 victory over Boston College, Pitt’s first ACC victory of the season. Pitt running back James Conner had a 35-carry, 213-yard, one touchdown performance Friday night and Chad Voytik hit Tyler Boyd with a pair of ... Read More
James Conner feels the time is Now for Pitt
If you are around Paul Chryst’s Pitt Panthers football team, there is something different about the Panthers this season. While Pitt is one of the youngest teams in the entire nation, there is a certain confidence in that locker room right now that hasn’t been seen nor felt in the past few years. None of that has to really do with their 62-0 rout of Delaware to open the season. While that was certainly a nice way to start the season, this Panthers team has bigger goals in mind for the 2014 ... Read More
Tyler Boyd practices; other Pitt news
Pitt Panthers fans got some good news on Tuesday when sophomore wide receiver Tyler Boyd was back on the practice field. The guy who running back James Conner called “the best wide receiver in college football,” gave the Panthers and their fans a scare when he dislocated a finger on his left hand returning a punt in Saturday’s 62-0 victory against Delaware. All signs point to Boyd being ready to go when Pitt travels to Boston College on Friday. “He practiced yesterday and he’ll practice ... Read More
Instant Analysis: Pitt Clicks On All Cylinders Against Delaware
Pitt completely annihilated the Delaware Blue Hens on Saturday afternoon, scoring the most points ever at Heinz Field, with a 62-0 route. Looking back, here are my takeaway points from the blowout: 1. Pitt did what it was supposed to against a FCS opponent. It was the first time Delaware was shut out since 1996 (220 games). This was a much better outcome than two years ago against Youngstown State, where Pitt looked lethargic under senior QB Tino Sunseri and lost 31-17. 2. It is nice to see ... Read More
Pitt offfensive line hoping to build off dominant Week 1 performance
Looking back at Pitt’s big opening week win against Delaware, there was plenty to like about the Panthers opening 62-0 victory. The Panthers played as near a perfect game as they have in quite some time, but it was the offensive line that set the tone. That’s an offensive line that came into the season surrounded by question marks and while the opponent was only the FCS’ Blue Hens, the Pitt offensive line passed with flying colors. At the minimum that is an encouraging sign heading ... Read More
Pitt, James Conner run all over Delaware
It’s been quite some time since a Pitt Panthers team has dominated an opponent they should handle easily. The young Panthers did exactly that to open up the 2014 campaign on Saturday, dismantling the Delaware Blue Hens 62-0. The 62 points the Panthers scored set an all-time record for points scored at Heinz Field, having previously scored 55 against Gardner Webb back in 2012. It also was Pitt’s biggest margin of victory since defeating Temple 76-0 in 1977. It also was the Panthers first ... Read More
