In the third installment of some of the key questions heading into Steelers training camp, we will look specifically at the left inside linebacker position. When it comes to the inside linebacker position, it's fair to assume that Lawrence Timmons is locked in on the right side. Timmons is coming off an outstanding season where it easily can be argued he played at a Pro-Bowl level, and there is no reason to think there will be a significant decline for the eight-year pro. With that ... Read More
Steelers Off-Season issues being blown out of proportion in some areas
The Steelers will have a difficult off-season, yes. They will have to make some tough decisions and Steeler Nation will have to say goodbye to some players that they aren't yet ready to say goodbye too, but that doesn't mean the Steelers are facing the apocalypse as so many seem to assume. According to Spotrac.com, the Steelers have 51 players currently signed to deals for the 2013 season including those players signed to future/reserves contracts. The total amount owed to those 51 players is ... Read More
Should the Steelers Switch Back to the 4-3 Defense?
The Steelers have been running the 3-4 defense for years, but it may be time to think about making a change. Sure Dick LeBeau's defense was ranked first in the league statistically in 2012 and things seem to be fine on the defensive side of the ball. Yet with aging defenders and players expected to be on their way out of Pittsburgh in the next few years things are going to change drastically for the Steelers' defense. One change that could be positive is changing the defensive scheme from the ... Read More
Steelers’ GM Kevin Colbert’s Expects a lot of Change in 2013
The Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert talked to the media today and based on his comments, we can expect a lot of change heading into the 2013 season. Change was not unexpected from a team that struggled in 2012 and finished 8-8. In fact, prior to the 2012 season, starting many fans saw change coming at the end of the season. Before the Steelers can start making moves or signings in the off-season they must first get under the salary cap. The deadline to get under the cap number ... Read More
Final Pittsburgh Steelers Grades for 2012 Season
After every game during the regular season I offered my report card, grading the Steelers performance position-by-position across the field. Now that the season is over for the Steelers, after a disappointing 8-8 finish, it's time to recap things and hand out final grades for the regular season. With that being said, it is time to take a look at the final grades for the 2012 season for every position on the field. Quarterbacks: It wasn't exactly a great season for the Steelers' offense, ... Pittsburgh Steelers’ Week 16 Report Card
Another week, another disappointment for the 2012 Pittsburgh Steelers. This time however the script was different as the Steelers' defense played great and their offense let them down. Thanks to Sunday's loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, there will be no postseason for Mike Tomlin's team, just plenty of questions. With that being said, let's take a look at this week's report card. Quarterback: Ben Roethlisberger played his worst game of the season. He was an MVP candidate before his ... Read More
Pittsburgh Steelers Week 12 Report Card
The Pittsburgh Steelers did not fare well Sunday in Cleveland turning in an ugly overall effort in a 20-14 loss that could prove very costly in the long run. On the day, the Steelers had more penalties (nine) and turnovers (eight), than points the offense put up (seven). While it was an ugly day offensively, the Steelers' defense didn't play very bad- at least good enough to beat the Browns. With that being said, let's take a look at how the Steelers graded out in my weekly report ... Read More
Yinzer of the Week: Lawrence Timmons
Lawrence Timmons has often been called a hybrid linebacker. He is Mike Tomlin's "baby" as he was the first draft pick that Tomlin made as coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Last year, he and LaMarr Woodley both signed contract extensions with the Steelers. The only problem is that Timmons was supposed to have his "breakout season" for the past three years now. It hasn't happened yet and Steelernation has been voicing their displeasure. When Michael Vick and the Philadelphia Eagles came to town ... Read More
Pittsburgh Steelers’ Report Card in Win vs. Eagles
Sunday afternoon wasn't a must win for the Pittsburgh Steelers, but it was close and while it wasn't a pretty performance all-around, the important thing for the black-and-gold was that it was a win. By doing so they remain 2.5 games behind the Baltimore Ravens, as falling over three games back, even this early in the season may have been too big of a hole to dig out of. But this wasn’t just a win as the Steelers showed a little bit of a running game and a much better defensive effort, ... Read More
