Coaches love to use the phrase “leave it all on the field” when talking about effort for a team. Unfortunately for the Pittsburgh Power (3-7), Julian Talley left it on the field a little too often as his two fumbles helped derail a solid effort by the Power in a 70-48 loss to the Jacksonville Sharks (8-3). Looking at the final stat line on GameTracker shows Julian Talley finished the night with 12 receptions for 117 yards and four receiving touchdowns but it was the two fumbles that don’t ... Read More
Pittsburgh Power Come From Behind To Defeat Cleveland 55-44
A long time coming. That sentence sums up the wait for Pittsburgh Power fans who had not seen the Power (3-6) win a game at home in over a year. It all changed tonight after a kickoff return by Chris LeFlore helped lead to 27 unanswered points in the 4th quarter as the Power won 55-44 win over the Cleveland Gladiators (2-7). It was the spark the team needed although they’ve gotten sparks in a few other places and no I am not referring to the smoking hot dance team. This team has gotten a ... Read More
Pittsburgh Power fall to Tampa Bay Storm 62-34
Where is Christopher Lloyd when you need him? Just when it seems like the Pittsburgh Power’s prayers were answered at quarterback, Steven Sheffield came out in front of the home crowd and laid a real stinker as the Power fell to the Tampa Bay Storm 62-34. Maybe it’s time to start believing in other beings and I would like to suggest the Power faithful start flapping their arms to call for angels to come and help this team. It might make for a feel-good Disney movie called “Angels In The ... Read More
Week 9 Preview – Tampa Bay Storm Vs. Pittsburgh Power
A rejuvenated Pittsburgh Power (2-5) squad returns to the Consol Energy Center eager to keep the momentum going from a 53-48 win on the road over their division rivals in Philadelphia. Standing in their way this week will be the franchise that once called Pittsburgh home, the Tampa Bay Storm (5-3). Pittsburgh’s new quarterback Steven Sheffield made the most out of his first opportunity by throwing for 272 yards and six touchdowns last week. He did only complete 54.3% of his passes and had an ... Read More
What’s In A Name?
It’s always fun to play the “What if” game in sports. What if Neil O’Donnell hadn’t thrown two crucial interceptions in Super Bowl XXX? What if Jerry Meals had called Julio Lugo out instead of safe? What if the Penguins hadn’t drafted Mario Lemieux? What if the Pirates had drafted Matt Wieters instead of Daniel Moskos? Here’s one for the arena football fans in town. What if the Pittsburgh Power had named themselves the Pittsburgh River Wizards instead? You might think it’s a silly name I ... Read More
Pittsburgh Power bring two key players back for 2013
The Pittsburgh Power have used the exclusive free agency period to sign two players to the 2013 roster from last year’s squad. Wide receiver Mike “The Joystick” Washington will return for his third season in the AFL, all for the Pittsburgh Power. The local Aliquippa native has been very consistent for the Power during his career, notching 114 receptions for 1,367 yards and 30 touchdowns in 2011 and 115 receptions for 1,484 yards and 34 touchdowns in 2012. He earned AFL Playmaker of the Week ... Read More
Crucial Off-season About To Begin For The Pittsburgh Power
Arena football is still a few months away from starting back up at the Consol Energy Center, but the Pittsburgh Power are about to enter the crucial period where they start building the team that will be competing for the Foster Cup in 2013. They have several ways to find talent to don the black and gold this year. Starting Monday, the Power will have the ability to exclusively sign players from their 2012 roster for this year and perhaps beyond. As part of the new collective bargaining ... Read More
Power coming off disappointing season, but head coach Stingley here to stay
The Pittsburgh Power played their final game of the 2012 season on July 20, losing 39-64 to the Jacksonville Sharks, finishing the season with a 5-13 record. Power fans weren’t without something to cheer about, however. Power WR/KR PJ Berry, electrified the crowd all season, much like he did the previous year, leading the AFL for the second straight year in all-purpose yards with 2,024. Berry was as versatile as he was exciting, playing five different positions for the power, including ... Read More
