PSAC West Men’s Notebook: IUP burned at buzzer, Lakers make history
When IUP and West Chester's men's teams met on Nov. 22, the Crimson Hawks were a different team. This was long before they hit their stride, most notably compiling a 13-game winning streak. On March 5th, the Crimson Hawks were vastly improved heading into the rematch against the Golden Rams in the PSAC semifinals. Unfortunately for IUP, the result was the same as before. West Chester's Matt Penecale hit a game-winning layup at the buzzer in overtime, smashing the hearts of the Crimson ... Read More
Student-athletes take on parenting role
In college, time flies. The “greatest four years of your life” go by in an instant. With the exams, social life and extra-curricular activities, time is precious for a college student. For a student-athlete, the time management skill comes into play even more, as they aren’t only juggling their time in the classroom and out, but also in the gym or on the field. Student athletes have an argument that they should be paid, given the amount of money the institution is making off of them, and ... Read More
Robert Morris second-half collapse leads to double-digit loss
Robert Morris University (1-7) hosted the Oakland University Golden Grizzlies (3-3) in a match that ignited the Colonials to a stellar first half, but would fizzle out in the second half dropping their eighth game of the season, 92-74. If You’re Not Talking, You’re Not Playing Defense Well, there was a lot of talking on the Colonials’ sidelines, but not so much on the floor itself. Giving up 40 points in the first half alone, there was reason for Coach Andy Toole to yell more than actually ... Read More
Robert Morris drops home opener; starts season 0-3
Robert Morris men’s basketball (0-3) has had quite a slow start to the season, and after dropping to the Bucknell Bison (2-1) 81-76 tonight, head coach Andy Toole finds himself in an early 0-3 hole. The first loss of the season came from Toole’s alma mater, Penn, in a heartbreaking 76-75 nail biter. Even with a 28-point game from senior Rodney Pryor, the Colonials were not able to make up a 16-point halftime deficit, and would fall by a mere one point. Robert Morris’ second game was quite ... IUP holds off Slippery Rock, advances to NCAA regional final
It wasn't pretty, but a win is a win. Despite a late comeback attempt, the IUP Crimson Hawks held off Slippery Rock in the semifinal match-up of the NCAA D2 Men's Basketball Championship, winning 53-50. Slippery Rock was having flashbacks of last night's game, but the outcome didn't measure up to their previous late game upset. "I knew it was going to be the first one to fifty to win," Coach Lombardi said after the game. It was a sloppy first half for both teams. After Marcel ... Read More
