Basketball season hasn't officially started yet for the Pitt Panthers, but Jamie Dixon's squad will have to begin preparation for the 2014-15 season short one man. Senior guard Cameron Wright, who averaged 10.5 points and 3.8 rebounds per game last season, broke his left foot Thursday and had to have surgery Friday. Wright is expected to be sidelined up to 10 weeks, meaning he should be back in the Pitt lineup right around Christmas time. In Wright's absence, sophomore Josh Newkirk is ... Read More

Pitt's second turn through the ACC is highlighted by home games against North Carolina, Syracuse and Louisville. Eighteen of Pitt's 32 regular season games will be against ACC foes. Pitt basketball recruit Maverick Rowan leaves WPIAL
After two insanely productive seasons at Lincoln Park High School, Pitt recruit Maverick Rowan was potentially on his way to breaking the WPIAL scoring record. He no longer will have that opportunity. Rowan’s family announced that he will transfer to Cardinal Gibbons High School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. As their family is moving to Florida. The 6’7” guard scored 1,482 points with 142 three-pointers at Lincoln Park and averaged 26.3 points, 6.9 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.7 steals last ... Read More
Durand Johnson likely to be ready for start of 2014-15 season
The Pitt basketball program suffered a big loss last season when swingman Durand Johnson was lost for the season with a torn ACL. While at the time his 2014-15 season availability was brought into question, Pitt fans can breathe a little bit easier as Johnson is expected to be ready to start the season. Johnson has not been cleared to practice as of yet, but is expected to be cleared to resume full practice by the end of August. He traveled with the panthers on their recent trip to the Bahamas ... Pitt Basketball 2014-15 non-conference schedule released
The Pitt Panthers basketball team announced their 2014-15 non-conference schedule on Tuesday and it has a little bit better look than in years past. Instead of the totally soft out of conference schedule that Jamie Dixon often comes under criticism for, the Panthers schedule includes their first-ever Maui Invitational appearance and a road game at Indiana as part of the Big 10-ACC Challenge. Pitt will play eight home non-conference tilts and 11 of Pitt's potential non-conference opponents ... Read More
Future Looks Bright for Jamie Dixon’s Pitt Panthers
As usual, the summer months are a bit slow in terms of news surrounding the Pitt basketball team. But that also gives Jamie Dixon the opportunity to look towards the future in terms of recruiting. With that being said, it has been an interesting couple of months for Dixon and the Panthers. I will start with the basketball team where Dixon lost one of his top assistants for the second time when Barry Rohrssen decided to leave the program once again, this time to join John Calipari’s ... Lamar Patterson drafted by Bucks, traded to Hawks
For the second consecutive year, the Pitt Panthers were represented in the NBA Draft. Unlike last season when Steven Adams went in the lottery, this year forward Lamar Patterson was selected in the second round with the No.48 pick overall by the Milwaukee Bucks. However Patterson’s stay in Milwaukee was a short one, as he was quickly dealt to the Atlanta Hawks. Atlanta is a nice landing spot for Patterson, who averaged 17 points, five rebounds and four assists per game for the Panthers ... Read More
Lamar Patterson hoping to hear name called in NBA Draft
Last year at this time, the Pitt basketball program was preparing to celebrate having turned out a lottery pick when Steven Adams was drafted by the Oklahoma City Thunder. This year when the NBA Draft comes and goes, it could do so without hearing Lamar Patterson’s, Pitt’s only NBA hopeful, name called. For a while Patterson was projected to be a mid- second round pick and while that could still be the case, it seems over the course of the past month that Patterson’s draft stock has fallen ... Shaquille Doorson decommits from Pitt; signs with Rutgers
There’s still a long way to go until Jamie Dixon and the Pitt basketball program opens up the 2014-15 season, but unfortunately they will be doing so without incoming freshman Shaquille Doorson. Many were excited that the big man initially committed to Pitt, but Doorson has officially decommitted from Pitt and will be heading to Rutgers instead. Someone had to go as the Panthers were over their scholarship limit and Doorson appeared to be the odd man out, but it appears to be a mutual ... Read More
Pitt Basketball Notebook: Panthers get OLSH guard Cam Johnson; ACC announces schedule
It has been a busy couple of days for Pitt Panthers basketball coach Jamie Dixon as they landed a prized recruit and lost an assistant coach. I will take a look at that and more in this week's Pitt notebook. - The biggest news of the week is that Pitt landed Cam Johnson. Johnson, a senior guard at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart High School in Moon, surprised many Monday when he signed a letter of intent with Pitt just one day after the Panthers had offered him a scholarship. At 6'7", ... Read More
